Fashion evolution since Independence

A lot of evolution has taken place since Nigeria gained independence in 1960. One is definitely in the fashion sector. Nigerian fashion has gradually but surely evolved over the last 54 years.
Since fashion is ever changing, many of the trends of yesteryears are being slightly improved upon these days.
Some of the fashion trends that we are all crazy about these days actually take their root from way back. In the 1960s, baby doll dresses were certainly in vogue. Other styles peculiar to that decade were fringes on everything, psychedelic prints for tops, bottoms, dresses, scarves, cigarette pants as well. The ‘LBD,’ aka the Little Black Dress became a fashion fad after actress Audrey Hepburn wore it in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ in 1961.
Shoes that made waves in that era were ballet flats, Mary Janes and Kitten heels. Meanwhile, accessories were not left out in the 1960s as oversized sunglasses, even indoors and headbands became popular.
However, one of the biggest trends for females were mini-skirts and dresses. Bell-bottom jeans had existed before but became popular in the late ‘60s.
