THE hype surrounding the Emerge Fashion Show has been building for some time and now the official countdown has begun with the much anticipated show taking place on 31 October.
A partnership between Pambili Young Designers and the Fashion Council of Namibia (FCN), this is set to be a fashion show of note which aims to showcase the talents of both upcoming and established Namibian fashion designers. It will provide a platform to showcase their work to the local market on a professional and well-organised level.
The Namibian fashion sector has displayed an eagerness to develop its clothing (apparel manufacturing) capacities, but efforts have been frustrated by a lack of infrastructure, capital, as well as local and export markets. Production in Namibia is often insufficient which forces designers to produce exclusive garments and drives up the prices of original designer wear.
The success of Namibian designers on the international market has shown that given the right opportunities, locals can compete on the booming African and world stage. The Emerge Fashion Show aims to be a marketing tool to attract potential investors to develop the Namibian sector through a larger platform like the Namibian Fashion Week. The show is made possible through the support of the The National Arts Council (NAC) and the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC).
