Segun Gele for African fashion showcase 10th year

Nigerian fashion designer Hakeem Oluwasegun Olaleye, known as “Segun Gele” to fans, who has received international acclaim for his visually inspiring headwear is to showcase his works at the 10th celebration of African Fashion Showcase, 2014.

The Sabbar Shrine Center will give way to high fashion and festive music Saturday as the Diaspora Showcase Africa returns for its 10th year.

Hundreds of fashionistas are supposed  to attend the event, which will feature the works of other designers aside Segun Gele, such as Allister “Pela” Burnett from New York City, Zanzibar-born Farouque Abdela, Kike Adeeko.

Showcase founder Kwevi Quaye said the event has come a long way from its humble beginnings.

“The quality of the designers has dramatically improved,” Quaye said. “When we started, we featured designers who were known in their local communities. Now we have designers that are international in scope. Many designers who didn’t know much about Tucson now know about Tucson.” Africans are really doing their thing in fashion industry around the globe.
