Supporting African Fashion - Diana Opoti

Diana Opoti
Diana Opoti of Nairobi Kenya has just concluded her 100 outfits in 100 days in celebration of Africa Fashion. Visit her website to see the outfits she wore. Well, of course we like them in that she truly embraces everything that makes her that bold and beautiful African woman who doesn’t make any apologies for being who she is.
There is something unique in taking time out to celebrate yourself because, guess what? If you don’t, chances are no one will even think you are worth celebrating let alone celebrate you. Many African cultures go out of their way to celebrate “coming to womanhood” like the Kalabaris and Ibanis in the Rivers State of Nigeria, others celebrate “coming to adolescence” as the Okrikans and I’m certain many other tribes. But celebrating African Fashion in the way Diana Opoti has done is worthy of note.

Many people are taking advantage of the social media to put themselves out there, snapping and uploading selfies, family fun times, vacations abroad etc. A whole lot of us should start taking a wonderful picture every Sunday before church services and document that for a year. It could make very interesting viewing. Over the years, it could become a reference point but hey, ladies if you want me to love them, keep them African.

Dig?
