THE seventh annual Swahili Fashion Week will take place at Sea Cliff Hotel between 5th and 7th December in Dar Es Salaam.
This year the Swahili Fashion Week will collectively bring together
24 designers from within Tanzania and beyond to showcase their
collections, predicting trends for the East African market for next
year.
Speaking to the Sunday News, Washington Benbella manger of the show
clarified that many designers turned up to show case their designs and
24 were selected.
"Swahili Fashion week is aimed at reaching out to the public to emphasize and promote Tanzanian talent in the fashion industry.
"It's about valuing our own designers and building brands by taking them to an international level," he said.
Throwing light on the Emerging Designers competition that is part of
the Swahili Fashion Week, Benbella added the competition is for upcoming
designers who are given theme to work through.
He added that this year theme is number 7, whereby the in finalists
in Emerging Designers competiti0on are required to create designs with
the number seven.
The following are the finalists who will take part in the Emerging
Designer competition; Nabila Bhanji , Damian Luwanda , Ally Aurora
Parsaw, Mary Edward Mollel, Mendrad Peter Mlowe.
Juma Julius John, Oliviah Geoffrey Majule, Trina Samira Ngene from
Kenya and Namfundo Promise Madlala from South Africa The Fashion week
shall feature a shopping festival throughout the three days which will
give fashion and accessories designers a chance to showcase their work.
The fashion week will end with the awards ceremony celebrating the
achievements in the fashion industry in Tanzania and East Africa as a
region "We urge the public to support the design industry and proudly
wear Made in Africa, , especially Tanzania.
Our own talented designers talents need to be nurtured to evolve them
into synonymously globally recognised brand names". he added.
The event that is organized by 361 degrees, will take place at Hotel
Sea Cliff & Sea Cliff Apartments under sponsorship of East Africa
Television, East Africa Radio, National Arts Council of Tanzania BASATA
(Basata), 2M Media, Baileys, Syscorp Media, Tanzania Printers Ltd,
