It started in 2008 when she emerged the 1st runner-up of the first
edition of the 22nd July Beauty Pageant, which was launched by President
Jammeh.
After her winning, Miss Oley bagged her scholarship and was given the
choice to go and study any course of her choice in any country. She
decided to study and graduate with Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in
Fashion Designing and Arts.
Miss Taal was made "FACE OF THE COLLEGE" based on her conduct,
performance and personality and how she relates to people, which the
College stands for.
"I am known by everyone in the College and that is what the College
stands for. My photo is on the College website, and also along the busy
Oxford Streets in London," Miss Taal told the Daily Observer.
Miss Taal who dedicates her achievement to the Gambian leader who is
the founder and patron of the beauty pageant said she was humbled by
being honoured as a Gambian.
According to her, a lot of advise was given to her when she was
leaving for England thus she saw herself as an ambassador for The
Gambia.
Being part of the Pageant, she went on, was and still a big deal,
noting that all she wanted was to go to study and come back home.
The best thing I wanted to do was to carry legacy that was given to
me here, in addition to training that my parents gave me, concious of
the fact that I am representing The Gambia, Government, youth and the
Pageant, have all contributed to the way I comport myself.
Taal who is back in The Gambia, said it was never her intention to
stay in England after her studies, but to come back home and do
something for her country. "My Principal was even teasing me that they
are going to miss me because every day I come to school they know, and
when I am absent they know too," she stated.
For those looking up to her as their role model, Ndey Oley Taal
advised and encouraged them to believe in themselves and to always seek
advice and follow their dreams.
As to what she is up to since she returned home a year ago, she said:
"So far, am not doing anything yet, I have been here for a year now. I
am still trying to settle down and study the market to see where I fit
in. The Fashion industry is growing and booming and am learning from
everyone," she said.
The 26-year-old young Gambian model residing in South Atlantic in
Bakau said she loves modeling but equally has passion for cloth and
cloth making, recalling that she left the country for England back in
2010 where she started her Fashion Design and Arts Course.
"After I did the course for three years, I did all my subjects and
last year 2013 I finished my course. I am here in the country to share
my knowledge with every young Gambian," she concluded. allAfrica.com
