The Black Fashion Week 2014 which was initiated by the Senegalese designer Adama Paris began glamorously with an opening Black & Gold party that brought together fashionistas, designers and models on a common platform to celebrate the beauty of African Fashion in Paris. The event was held at the Pavillon Cambon Capucines – Rue Cambon, 75008 Paris, France.
As it’s done every year, designers across Africa showcase collections to enhance the recognition of African fashion and reveal the cultural riches of Africa. It’s a special moment which is shared among others with strong feelings about fashion in Africa.
In an interview with the Senegalese designer, Adama Paris threw more light on fashion trends in Africa, she pointed out significantly two kinds of designers in Africa. She said the Francophone designers work with traditional fabrics and try to modernise a local clientele base whereas Anglophone develop more fashion ” Afropolitaine”. This trend simply corresponds with contemporary fashion and bring out African identity.
